THE MIDWEEK medal at Dartmouth may have been played in gale force winds, but Mark Lord's winning score suggested otherwise.

Lord chipped in for an eagle on the fourth which helped, but to score a nett 68 in such difficult conditions was nothing short of remarkable.

Lord will now play off a handicap of two for his troubles.

Andy Dix was second with 76 and that too was no mean feat. David Watson came home third with 79.

On Saturday a four-man team competition was held at Dartmouth, with two scores to count on the par threes, three scores on the par fours and all scores to count on the par fives.

It was tight at the top, with only a point separating the top two — Alan Goldthorpe, Rob Knight, Geoff Penhale and Dean Raspin scoring 123 to get the edge on Rob Barrett, Andy Lennon, Lewis Pillar and Ian Metchette's 122.

Ten points further behind were the third-placed team of Richard and Jonathon Dunn, George Kidd and David Brooking.

On the same day the monthly stableford was held on the Dartmouth nine-hole course. Ivo Gavin won with 42 points, beating Chris Cole with 38 and Tim Gray with 35.

DARTMOUTH'S ladies played their first medal competition of 2010 but, although it was a beautiful day, the course was still sufficiently wet for trolleys to be restricted to the paths.

However, this did not seem to deter Roz Forde (27) who, with her shiny new clubs, managed to come first with a nett 75 and a handicap reduction.

Chris Mayer (20) came second with nett 80 on countback from Tina Scanlan (29).

DARTMOUTH'S seniors will have to turn around a 4-1 deficit at Wrangaton if they are to advance to the next round of the Emerton Court Trophy.

They lost the first leg at home, where the only pairing to win were John Savery and John Cousins who won by one hole.

Losing pairs were Geoff Penhale and Alan Goldthorpe, Ron Barton and David Rowsell, Dave Atkins and Mike Gregory, and Rob Knight and Paul Stubbs.

The club's reserve pair Malcolm Hartle and Bernard Young also played their Wrangaton counterparts and won 4&3.

On Monday, the seniors played a fourball team competition with all four members scoring on the first six holes, three on the second six and two on the final six.

J Savery, John Cousins, Bernard Taylor and Chris Musgrave won with 102 points, beating Eddy Kemp, John Culhane, Des Graham and Malcolm Hartle with 100.

Alan Goldthorpe, Paul Adams, Ron Cooper and Alan Cooper had to settle for third on countback.
