Lorry fire closes A38
THE main A38 through South Devon was closed in both directions after a lorry fire this afternoon.
The A38 Devon expressway was closed at Heathfield, near the Drum Bridges junction.

Traffic was said to be building up in both directions.
The cause of the closure, which took effect around 3.45pm, was said to be the lorry fire and smoke billowing across the dual carriageway.

A Fire Service spokesman said one lorry was well alight when they arrived.
Firefighters using four sets of breathing apparatus and two hosereel jets were fighting the flames.
The road was expected to re-open around 4.45pm.
The Fire Service received numerous calls from passing motorists alerting them to the incident.
Crews were sent from Bovey Tracy and Newton Abbot together with a water bowser from Exeter.
One Plymouth-bound lane was open shortly after 4.30pm but queues were still said to be huge.

“It did look nasty when I drove past tonight at 7:30, hope no one was hurt, with still one lane closed; however the overhead signs I had driven under before only give a warning of delays on A38 after the A***, please give the junction name not an A road number, when you're driving this means nothing to most, I live in Plymouth but don't know that the A*** is also the Drum Bridges exit. If I'd realised where it was I'd have gone up Telegraph Hill and home via Totnes, thanks Highways Agency.”
