TORBAY Council celebrated Carers Week with a special Fun Day for young carers.

More than 120 youngsters and their families enjoyed an inflatable obstacle course, face painting and African drumming, as well as a barbecue.

Cheryl Mackinnon, from Torbay Council's Young Carers Service, who organised the event, said: "Feedback from the young people and their parents said it was a brilliant day.

"A big thank you goes to the local taxi drivers who gave up their time free of charge to transport the families to the event in minibuses donated for the day by Churston Ferrers Grammar School, Preston Rotary Club who provided the barbecue, and the Brixham Soroptimist Society who did the tea and coffee for the event.

"We are already looking forward to another successful event next year."

Cllr Anna Tolchard, Torbay Council cabinet member for children's services, also underlined the positive outcome of the day: "The young carers Fun Day was an enormous success.

"Around 120 young carers and their families came along and enjoyed a fun-packed day of activities while finding out about all the useful support on offer from the council to help them perform in this demanding role."
