Man died after window fall

AN inquest has been opened in to the death of a 69-year-old man who fell from a fourth floor window in Torquay.

John Chowles, of Frobisher Green, Chelston, was taken to Torbay Hospital on October 5 but died the same day. The coroner has been told that Mr Chowles had a history of depression. There are no suspicious circumstances.

The Devon and Cornwall Constabulary Compassionate Fund provides financial aid to the families of serving and retired officers.

The latest leaflet-drop is on the back of the tragic deaths of two policewoman killed on duty in Manchester.

Treasurer of the Exeter-based fund Gerry Allen, a former detective constable in Torquay, said: "The leaflet was suggested by a supporter of the charity in Torquay. People can make donations if they want. All donations are important to us and will be greatly appreciated to provide financial assistance to those in need."
