Mandi picks up club's top prize at awards
LADIES running group FIT2run held their first awards night, unveiling a host of winners in what is expected to be an annual event.
Honours handed out included Runners' Runner, Club Member of the Year, Performer of the Year and overall club champion.
Points for the overall prize are accrued over the year by attending group sessions, organised weekend runs, setting personal bests and entering races.
The overall prize went to Mandi Burroughs who has set herself the aim of completing 50 half marathons before her 50th birthday, which is in December this year.
Runner-up for the overall prize was Mandy Richards, while Cindy Luxton was third and Helen Kinsman fourth.
Other awards went to:
Most Improved Runner: Alison Richards, who achieved a number of personal bests in 10k and half marathon races ni 2011.
Performer of the Year: Lucy Woolley who completed the 2011 London Marathon, shaving a massive 30 minutes off her personal best, but has also taken up a variety of sprint triathlons.
Club Member of the Year: Roz Norris earned this for her regular participation in the group and hard work and time given to setting up the membership forms and register for the new group.The membership is now up to 60-plus.
Runners' Runner: Vanessa Zalman has been an inspiration to the group following her treatment for breast cancer.
Wooden Spoon Award: Chris Rive was awarded this for willingly entering off-road races and training off-road, even though she said she 'hates running off-road'. Chris was one of 16 members of the club who undertook the Four Peaks Challenge in 2011 and she also endured the Grizzly 20 mile race.
FIVE runners from Teignbridge Trotters took part in the Gloucester Marathon on Sunday, which runs along side the 50km ultra.
The course comprises of a flat four miles around Quedgeley and Hardewicke followed by three undulating laps of just under seven miles with one-mile leg to finish at Rea Bridge, Quedgeley.
It has a strict five-hour cut off for the marathon while the ultra-runners have to complete another lap. The course was a little windy in places but 374 competitors still completed the marathon.
Roger Hayes ran a really strong race in 3.16.16 and came 39th.
Roger Hales did 3.27.22 and clocked 69th.The star of the day was Allen Taylor who managed to do a massive pb of 24 minutes to finish in 3.28.01 and 72nd.
Phil Perry just missed the sub 4 hour mark in 4.02.00 and finished 218th.
The lone trottettee and our own marathon queen, Sally Ingledew completed in 4.41.43 and 323rd.
HALDON TRAIL RUNNERS: On Saturday, Nathan White completed the Cambridge Park Run in a very speedy time of 19:47. On Sunday, Karen Watkins travelled to Gloucestershire to complete the Gloucester marathon in a superb time of 3hrs 47mins 21 secs.
