Masonic lodge receives Queen's congratulations
THE Queen was among those congratulating Torquay's oldest Masonic Lodge on its 200th anniversary.
A weekend of celebrations culminated in St John's Lodge members enjoying a special banquet attended by a selection of Freemason grandees and Torbay Council chairman Martyn Hodge.

Numerous commendations were read out, including one from David Ryan, director of the Private Secretary's Office at Buckingham Palace.
His letter said: "I have been asked to thank you, the Worshipful Master, officers and brethren of St John's Masonic Lodge for your kind letter containing loyal greetings to The Queen, sent on the occasion of the Lodge's 200th anniversary.
"Her Majesty was interested to learn about the Lodge and appreciates your thoughtfulness in writing as you did.
"In return, The Queen sends her warm, good wishes to all concerned on this most special anniversary."
Members then retired to the lodge's dining room for a celebratory banquet, before being presented with an engraved souvenir whiskey glass and a history of St John's Lodge.

“The Queen sets all Free Masons a fine example with her loyalty and alliegence. One that all Free Masons will acknowledge in their own special way, one way or another.”
