Met Office issue cold weather warning
The Met Office has warned of a 70% risk of severe cold weather over the next few days.
A spell of rain, sleet and hill snow moving across the region today will last into Monday. Snow is expected to mainly affect higher ground, from Dartmoor and Exmoor eastwards, although there is a lower chance of some snow accumulating down to lower levels this morning across some eastern parts of the region.
The weather is expected to turn colder and more settled from Tuesday with overnight frosts and a bitter easterly wind.
Police are advising anyone living in higher parts, such as Exmoor and Dartmoor not to travel unless essential and to check the local media for further travel guidance.
A small amount of snow may occur in other areas of Devon, mostly on higher ground, but forecasts suggest that this will not cause significant disruption.
Drivers should take care, slow down, listen to updates on local radio stations and give themselves extra time to get to their destination.
Inspector Andy Oliver from the Police Control room at Exeter says “Previously we have had problems on the A38/A380 around Haldon Hill near Exeter. The Met Office advise us that although this area may experience a little sleet/snow it is unlikely to be adversely affected. At this time the road is completely clear.”
