A chief forecaster at the Met Office said: “Further active frontal systems with outbreaks of rain and strong gale force winds will move northeastwards across the southwest of England during Saturday and Sunday.
“Some of the rain will be heavy with many areas seeing an additional 20-30mm with as much as 50-60mm possible over high ground.
“Given that the ground is already saturated, the public should be aware of the risk of localised flooding and disruption to travel.
The amber weather warning is in place from the early hours of Saturday morning until 6pm on Christmas Eve.
At this stage it is unclear whether a weather warning will be in place for Christmas Day.
