FURTHER to your headlined article featuring Cllr Kevin Carroll and Brixham town councillor Mike Morey, one would question exactly who is too big for his boots.

Certainly not Mike Morey, who was merely expressing the wishes of a large number of the electorate of Brixham following an almost unanimous view of residents and councillors at the July public planning meeting to recommend refusal of proposals for an unacceptable development at Wall Park Holiday Camp.

Having witnessed Cllr Carroll in full flow at a previous planning meeting at Oldway, one thing which is apparent is his condescending approach to issues on which other members may have other opinions. His reputation as being akin to 'Tito' does not do him justice.

The reasons for not holding the specially-convened meeting in Brixham are rather lame and perhaps only go to illustrate how the current Tory administration actually appears not to listen to the electorate; perhaps with the May elections looming they should consider whether Cllr Carroll's apparent abrasive attitude is conducive to building some harmony in the Bay's governance.

I speak for many in Brixham by saying that, working under constraint and limited power, the Brixham Town Council — far from 'trying to decide what we are doing in Torbay' — are doing a fine job in furthering the interest of the townsfolk, and Cllr Carroll's comments are completely incorrect.

It would appear that levels of communication between the heavy gang in Torquay and the Brixham Town Council leave much to be desired over a wide-ranging agenda, with a lack of common courtesy apparently evident towards our town councillors.

With the Wall Park meeting scheduled for September 27 and the Herald Express's Opinion column (HE, September 2) in mind, Brixham residents need to know that there have been amendments to the original application which have little or no effect, as the protection of the Centry Road part of the scheme covering land identified in the local development plan for sport and recreation use.

It is worth mentioning that the Conservative presence on the planning committee will be in the majority, probably including Cllr Carroll. I wonder if the importance of fair debate by councillors who are fully conversant with the Wall Park issues can be anticipated with the views of Brixham's representatives.

“lets hope that Mike Morey is voted out of office next time around. There are far to many inefficient councillors and it does make me wonder if some of the policies are hatched up at the pub.”
