MORE than a dozen beach huts were tipped over by vandals at a Torbay beach, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

Fifteen beach huts were tipped on their side at Goodrington South beach on Saturday night, causing £2,500 of damage.

Torbay Council said 14 of the huts were owned by the authority and one was privately-owned.

Council workers discovered the damage first thing Sunday morning and started carrying out repairs and informing the users of the huts.

The huts were discovered door side down and had to be lifted back into place before the damage could be assessed and anyone could get inside the huts.

A spokesman for Torbay Council said: "Our beach staff have already been carrying out repairs to the damaged beach huts.

"This was a mindless act of vandalism.

"We are appealing to anyone with information about this incident to notify the police so they can track down those responsible for this crime."

A fellow beach hut owner said: "I'm really annoyed to hear about this and I feel sorry for the owners.

"Everything inside will be broken.

"They need to catch the people who did this."
