Morris says promotion is still possible for Stavvy
STAVERTON & Landscove boss Mark Morris believes his side is capable of making a late surge for promotion after they continued their impressive run of form with an 8-2 hammering of Riviera Spurs.
Morris' improving charges, who are now unbeaten in six Division One games, are 10 points behind second-placed Loddiswell Athletic but have games in hand on most of the teams above them.
The Stavvy manager, whose side has not been helped by a three-point deduction this term, said: "We've got a decent little team and, if we keep picking up points like we are, there's a chance that we can finish second.
"One thing that could work to our advantage is that we've got quite a lot of home games left to play – we've only played four at our place so far."
Stuart Palmer bagged four of the goals in the rout of Riviera, who had to play 80 minutes with 10 men after Tom Pennicott was sent off.
Mike Summers (2), Ben Hooper and Andy Parsons also netted for Stavvy.
Brian Stark and Danny Horsfall replied.
Ipplepen Athletic must be sick of the sight of Harbertonford after James Hannaford's team followed up the previous weekend's last-gasp Dartmouth Cup semi-final victory by holding the leaders to a 1-1 draw at Moor Road.
Aaron Bartlett had fired Fords in front with a cracking volley but Ipplepen equalised through Chris Srdinko, who pressured opposition keeper Dan Woods into dropping the ball before slotting into the net.
The result has revived Buckland Athletic Reserves' hopes of catching the Pens in the race for top spot.
Jim Barrett's men beat Paignton Villa 3-1 on Saturday and are now 12 points off the summit with four games in hand.
The Bucks appeared to be cruising to victory after goals from John Coote and Lee Pike had handed them a 2-0 lead but Matthew Hines' strike set up a tense final half-hour, before Luke Crowson sealed the win three minutes from time.
