New Farmers Markets Bring a Taste of the Countryside to Torbay
LOCAL PRODUCERS brought a taste of the countryside to Castle Circus on Saturday for the first ever Torquay Farmers Market, outside the Town Hall.
The new initiative - supported by Taste of the West – offered a range of homemade produce including chocolates, fresh fish, artisan breads, local cheeses and more to weekend town centre shoppers. The new market has already been launched in Brixham High Street and will be appearing soon in Paignton town centre.
"It's gone much better than expected today," said stall owner and one of the organisers Leonie Reece, "It's been steady, which is good, but hopefully we will be even busier next month when more stalls and producers come along. Torquay really needs something like this. The market has already proved very popular in Brixham and we're hoping it does just as well in both Torquay and Paignton."
Riviera Sound played music throughout the inaugural market day, and stall owners included Wendy's Kitchen, Cockleshell Deli, Bob's Fudge, Chocolate Heaven Made In Devon and Cheezeboard. The Torquay Farmers Market will be in town the third Saturday of every month, it moves to Brixham High Street every second Sunday of the month and is looking to appear in Paignton town centre the first Saturday of the month.
