New Herald Express editor is appointed
JIM Parker, currently deputy editor of the Torquay Herald Express, has been appointed editor with immediate effect.
Jim joined Northcliffe in 1979 as a reporter. In 2006 he was appointed deputy editor. Jim is a well-known and respected figure within Torquay and the wider South Devon community.

Andrew Blair MD of South West Media Group said “I am delighted that Jim has been appointed editor. As deputy editor he played a key role in the successful conversion of the Herald Express to a weekly title last year.
“I look forward to Jim leading the continuing evolution of the title and the business to meet the ever changing needs of our readers and the South Devon market place. I am sure I speak on behalf of the whole team in Torquay when I say I look forward with relish to Jim’s editorship.”

“This is a gloomy day for local media coverage if it means that the culture of recent times will continue. I would have preferred to see a "new broom" who would produce a radical shake up of the news and columnist. If we are to continue to feel that £ 1 a copy is worth it there needs to be be more sophisticated coverage of local governance to replace the simple Mayor baiting which has been so negative and unduly personal. I'll give it about another two months and if there's no worthwhile change I will join the growing band of people who tell me they no longer buy the Herald.”
