Construction of a £110 million link road, aiming to eliminate traffic problems around a holiday resort, is a step closer.

Work is due to begin on a builders' access road for the new 5.5km South Devon Link Road around the village of Kingskerswell near Newton Abbot. The temporary haul road will be constructed towards Kingskerswell allowing works vehicles to access the site of the new road.

Mayor of Torbay Gordon Oliver said: "The creation of this haul road is an important step towards the construction of the South Devon Link Road – it will help to minimise the number of construction vehicles around the route and help keep everyday traffic moving normally."

Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet member for highways and transportation, said: "The construction of this temporary road will limit the amount of site traffic travelling on the main roads in the area, minimising delays and noise."

“There still doesn't seem to be any information available as to when/if various lanes will be closed during the construction process, e.g. the road out of Decoy over the railway bridge, or the road from the quarry to Kingskerswell.”
