As World Book Day approaches on March 7, Torbay Libraries is spreading the word that "You’re never too young to join the library" as it launches a new scheme whereby newborn babies will automatically receive a new library card.
Torbay Libraries is working in partnership with the team at Torbay Register Office to provide all new babies with a library card when their parents register their birth from 1 April 2013.

New library card
Executive Lead for Culture and Arts, Cllr Dave Butt, said: "Getting children into books at an early age is undoubtedly the best way of giving them a head start in education. It not only fills them with confidence in their own reading ability but also expands their imagination and encourages them to spend some quality time with their parents/carers.
"All new babies are entitled to join the library and with a library card from birth babies can now benefit from free board and picture books, with no overdue charges, as well as fun Music & Rhyme sessions and a whole range of services and activities from day one."
