New sixth form centre for term
A NEW state-of-the-art sixth form centre is to be built at Westlands School in time for the new term.
The current sixth form facilities have been located under the new Torquay United Football Club's stand.
Headteacher Dr Colin Kirkman said the move had been temporary while a top end sixth form space with hi-tech computer suites, work lounges and other learning facilities are being built.
He said the space under the football stand will now be taken up by a new 48-station multi gym which will be 'brilliant for the school, brilliant for the community and brilliant for the club'.

He said: "The gym was inside the body of the school but we only had 20 stations. We needed a space that was temporary for our sixth form centre so we put them under the stand.
"We have only had support from the club. Now we will put the gym under the stand. It will be the best multi gym in the Bay. It will be a great resource for the school, the community and the football club. "
Dr Kirkman did not want to reveal the cost of the work but said it would be 'substantive'.
The 300 students are expected to move into the new facility in September.
