MARK Newman won the latest round of Newton Abbot Fishing Association's Tackle Trader Winter League held on Bradley Pond at the weekend.

Newman fished peg nine and took 4kg 850g of quality roach and skimmers using a five-metre pole and pinkies.

In second place was Mark Cousins on peg eight with four good skimmer bream fishing a feeder for 2kg 600g, and third was Rick Johnston on peg seven with 2kg 100g of roach fishing the pole.

The next match is on Wapperwell this Sunday — book in with Max at Tackle Trader.

Elsewhere at Rackerhayes, Dores is starting to produce tench to 7lb on feeder and maggot, although the carp are still slow.

Fish Wheel Pond for carp to 4lb, Weedy for odd carp and tench, Key for roach, skimmers and big perch, and Eddison for silvers.

Fish Wapperwell for mixed bags of carp and skimmers, or Spring and Charlecombe for carp to double figures.

NEWBARN Farm's celebrity ghost carp Casper has obviously been feeding well since his last capture.

Casper came out to Callum Edwards at 5am and, to the fishery staff's great surprise, he weighed in at 24lb 15oz — nearly 4lb heavier than his previous weigh-in.

The fishery hopes he tops the 25lb mark soon.

Bailiff Jonny Davies also had a 20s fish with his 22lb mirror. His comment was that the fishery seems to have plenty of mid 20s in the water now as more and more are being caught.

The Carp League, meanwhile, saw Ian Robinson take two good fish out of Mirror Lake at 12lbs and 22lbs 12ozs.

COLDER sunny weather produced ideal fishing conditions at Town Parks Fishery this week.

The lower Specimen Lake produced carp, the best of the bunch a fine 24lbs 3oz common banked by local angler Kevin Locke.

Fishing peg six, Locke took the fish on single sweet corn cast to the small island.

James Hubble fished peg one overnight for a three-fish haul. Fishing a white mussel boilie cast tight to the main island, Hubble took a leather carp of 16lbs 3oz, a common of 15lb 3oz and a mirror of 12lb 3oz.

Father and son Andy and Jared Lewington fished opposite sides of the lake. Jared chose peg 10 and banked a mirror of 16lbs 1oz.

Under-pressure dad Andy could not match the weight of the fish but took a beautifully coloured fully scaled mirror of 9lb 4oz.

The tall reeds around the deeper water have now had their annual 'haircut' and almost immediately large fish started to forage in the margins looking for food.

Any bait dropped tight into the margins should produce quality fish this weekend.

On the upper Match Lake anglers have continued to take good bags.

Richard McMahon visited peg three for a fantastic day's fishing. Eight carp to 8lb 2oz fell to ledgered dead red maggot and partical feed.

On McMahon's waggler rod numerous very large skimmers were banked as well a plenty of roach to 2lb 6oz.

Tony Schiano took son Andreos for his first day's fishing from peg 20. Within minutes roach were being banked and by home time a bag of around 11lb had been taken.

The top lake has also had a 'haircut' this week and both lakes should be looking at their best as spring approaches!

The lakes are open as usual this weekend with no matches booked.

WILLOW Pool gave Michael Hird a lucky 13 carp to 10lb 4oz fishing with legered boilies at South View Farm Coarse Fishery.

Hird's father Stephen had an unlucky five carp to 9lb using legered sweetcorn.

Andrew Wakeman had 10 carp to 8lb on float-fished bread, fishing in the margins.

Kingfisher Pool gave Joe Martin six carp to 7lb using legered pellets.
