A 22-YEAR-OLD Torquay man will go on trial in January next year charged with murder.

At Exeter Crown Court yesterday Paul Nunn was told his trial was provisionally fixed for January 18 2010.

Father-of-two and Merchant Navy engineer Ben Coaker, 31, died from bleeding into the brain following an incident near Torquay coach station last month.

Prosecutor Howard Philips said the Crown would serve the papers in the case by July 27, with the defence to provide their case statement and witness requirements by August 24.

The plea and case management hearing will take place on September 18. Defence counsel Rupert Taylor said there was no application for bail and Nunn of Westbourne Road, Torquay, was remanded back into custody.

A PAIGNTON man is to appear before Exeter Crown Court charged with rape and harassment.

Lewis Harding, 30, (pictured below) from Queen Elizabeth Drive, appeared before Torbay Magistrates only to confirm his name, age and address.

He is charged with one count of raping a woman aged over 16 between June and August 2008, and harassing her between December 2007 and June 2008.

Harding, who has yet to enter a plea, was remanded on unconditional bail until his court date on October 9.

DARTINGTON Primary School youngsters are going quackers for the last time today as the school stages its final duck race.

Next year the youngsters are due to move into the £6million new primary school, but it will be too far away from Bidwell Brook to hold the yearly ritual.

The school's Duck Fayre starts tomorrow at 3pm and continues until 6pm and includes stalls, crafts and a raffle.

IN a Herald Express article on pay scales yesterday we wrongly stated Jane English was the principal of South Devon College.

We have been asked to make it clear she is the principal of Paignton Community and Sports College and her salary is not £133,000 a year.

A family fun dog show is being held at Long Marsh, Totnes, tomorrow .

Judging begins at 2pm and there is an entry fee of £1 per class.

All proceeds go to the South Devon Cats Rehoming charity.

VANDALS caused £30 damage after they jumped over a stone wall into a garden in Castle Street, Totnes, trampling plants and smashing a terracotta plant pot some time on Saturday.
