Newton Abbot get the better of table topping rivals
NEWTON ABBOT men's first team won again when they overturned Division One leaders Exeter Golf & Country Club II.
Solid 3-0 wins for John Sharpe, Nigel Bell and top string Lee Curtis with Tom Haysom winning in four sealed Newton's victory. Dave Brown lost three close games in the tightest match of the night.

The 17-4 win moves the first team to second place in the division, just three points behind their hosts.
A drop from first to fourth in division two was the outcome for Newton Abbot IIs after they surrendered their 100 per cent record to previously winless Paignton at Clennon Valley.

Rob Muddiman and Jim Watson had 3-0 victories over Richard Kogel and John Huxter respectively to give the visitors a solid start.
Paignton recovered to level at 2-2 as Alan Ford and Mike Kateb had 3-1 wins over Martin Hember and Dan Gough.
The match was settled with a strong performance from Richard Birkett as he beat Curtis Corby 15/5 15/7 15/5 to give the hosts a 3-2 (14-8) win.
The top of the division now sees four teams separated by just five points.
At the other end of Division Two, Newton Abbot V recorded their first win of the campaign, a 4-1 (17-7) home victory against Fort Stamford 3.
Fifth string Darren Mutton made hard work of his 3-2 win after cruising to a 2-0 lead only to see his opponent draw level to take the match to five.
Mutton seemed to regain control in the fifth as he led 10-5, but again the Plymouth man fought back, taking eight points without reply to lead 13-10. Mutton took the decider 15/13.
Clive Elmore and Kevin Smart both won 3-0, with young Adam Smart beating the experienced Paul Sumner in five.
Jason Williams suffered the only reverse on an otherwise successful night for Newton.
The depleted ladies second team only had three members away to Fort Stamford, where they lost 18-6.
Three points came from coming from a good win by top string Sue Hember.
