A CHARITY football game in Newton Abbot raised more than £2,000 for Cancer Research UK on Friday night.

Friends and family of the late John Drinkwater came together to play in a memorial match at the Recreational Trust to mark 10 years since he passed away.

John, who died of a brain tumour, was well respected in the town for his dedication to the sport as a player, coach and referee.

He had strong connections with Newton United, Newton Spurs and Buckland Athletic. His family also managed to get various businesses to donate raffle prizes.
