FIRE crews were called to an industrial unit in Newton Abbot's Minerva Way early today after reports of a gas leak.

The alarm was raised just after midnight, and two fire crews from Newton Abbot and gas detector equipment from Torquay were sent.

Fire crews confirmed a leak of sulphur dioxide and all staff had already been evacuated.

The source of the leak was isolated and the property was ventilated.
