TEIGNMOUTH'S Anne Darby has set a new age group record at the 39th British Masters Track and Field championships at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.

The Newton Abbot AC veteran was one of over 700 athletes taking part in the event last weekend and was soon in record breaking form.

On the afternoon of day one, Darby, took gold in the W55 2000m steeplechase, slicing 22 seconds off the existing British record.

The following morning saw her put in a solid run over 5000m and being rewarded with the best time she has run for this distance on the track since 2006.

In three weeks time, Darby will head off to Lahti, Finland, for the World Masters championships.

Her main target once again will be the steeplechase where she aims to improve on the bronze medal position she achieved at these championships two years ago.

TWO Dawlish Coasters were among 371 finishers at the Launceston half marathon

The 'Beast of Cornwall' run has the reputation of being among the toughest in the south of England.

In humid conditions and taking on the leg-sapping hills, Simon Bunday, running his 8th Beast, finished in 1:52:20 for 172nd place.

Fellow Coaster Pat Clatworthy, running her first Beast, finished in 2:25:10 for 336th place overall but second in her (Female Vet 60-64) age group.
