Nightlife rated by Purple Flag
THE quality of Torquay's night life will be celebrated as part of Purple Flag Week.
The resort is among accredited towns and cities across the country to celebrate the status award for the quality of its evening and night-time economy.
Tomorrow Mayor Gordon Oliver will be raising the flag on the harbourside/Vaughan parade at 9am.
Saturday September 22, there is a family event with entertainment, Punch and Judy, face painter painting Purple designs, three live music acts and market stalls between 11am and 3pm.

Man, 49, found dead in his cell
AN INQUEST has been opened into the death of a prisoner who was found in his cell at HMP Channings Wood.
Christopher John French, 49, from Merthyr Tydfil, was found dead in the single occupancy cell on Monday, August 27.
The exact cause of death is still awaited pending the results of tests.
There are no suspicious circumstances.
The inquest has been adjourned to a later date.
Mr French was serving life for committing arson with intent.
A Prison Service spokesperson said: "HMP Channings Wood prisoner Christopher John French was found unresponsive at 8.45am.
"Paramedics attended but he was pronounced dead at 9am.
"As with all deaths in custody, the independent Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation."
