Numbers down, but locals have 'lovely time'
THE 'Dunkirk spirt' shone through at the Lustleigh Village Show despite rain putting off some visitors.
Gates of the annual event usually swell around the 3,000 mark, but this bank holiday saw figures closer to the 1,000 mark.

VICTORIOUS: Adam Holland wins the 10k run TQTM20120827B-007_C
Show secretary Carol Lucas said: "There was a lot of the Dunkirk spirt because of the rain. It was mainly locals but we all had a lovely time.
"We had to cancel the horse show because we needed it for car parking. But the 10k run went ahead. We had some 147 people start the race and 123 of them finished the entire route.

"Local stall holders were down too, I think a lot of them were still stuck at the Totnes Show. But those that came generally made their pitch fee back and a bit more on the side. They know what it is like and how well the show does when the sun shines."
Adam Holland was first across the line of the 10k race and former MP Ann Widdecombe attended the event and spoke to those who also braved the elements.
