Torbay Council has introduced a new online form to help thousands of residents across the Bay who currently claim Housing and Council Tax benefit.

The form allows residents to change their address online instead of using the hard copy version, for which the council's Revenue and Benefits team receive around 3,000 requests per year.

Executive Lead for Finance and Audit Cllr Alan Tyerman, said: "This really is a win win situation. The increasing number of residents accessing information and managing their finances online will be able to change their address details at the touch of a button, saving them time and the council printing and postage costs.

"In the past the Revenue and Benefits team would have to wait for the completed hard copy form to be returned, now they receive the change of address details instantly and can process the changes more quickly.

"This is not the first time that the Revenue and Benefits team has launched an online form. In 2009 it launched an online claim form and as a result 80 percent of new claims are now received electronically and in turn the average time taken to process a new claim has reduced from 30 days to 15 days.

"We hope to see similar results with the new change of address form."

The form is now available at http://www.torbay.gov.uk/hbcoa/. There is no need for a signature, the customer must just read a declaration and confirm that they understand their rights and responsibilities.
