Otter watcher Miriam set to launch book in Totnes
A TOTNES author will be sharing her love for wildlife with a new book.
Miriam Darlington will be launching her new book 'Otter Country' at the Totnes Book Shop tomorrow at 6.30pm.
Miriam's account was the subject of a bidding war by six big name publishing houses. It has just been published by Granta Books.
Miriam travelled the length and breadth of the country for over a year to write about the animals, which have fascinated her since she was a child.

She said: "I lived in a household full of science and natural history books when I was growing up and my grandfather was always showing me his museum of animal skulls and pelts."
"I read 'Tarka the Otter' when I was about ten years old and I think that was the spark for me. It's such an interesting, mysterious animal, with lovely aquatic skills but so rare at the same time."
Miriam has been writing for ten years, already having a book of poetry published in 2008 entitled 'Windfall' (Overstep Books).
But it was her love of wildlife that inspired her to leave her job as a secondary school teacher and write full time, her husband and two teenage children joining her on some of her adventures into the wilds of Scotland, Northumberland and Dartmoor.
