Delivered by economic development company YTKO, Outset Torbay is funded to the tune of £1.8million by the European Regional Development Fund and Torbay Development Agency to deliver intensive start-up support and enterprise coaching across the Bay and to raise the entrepreneurial aspirations of under-represented groups, including women, 18 to 24 year olds, the over 50s, those with disabilities or health issues, and long-term unemployed.

Short-listed in the 'private sector' category, New Start praised the way in which Outset Torbay tailors its support to clients' needs, adapting a grassroots approach to deliver plain language workshops for people who may never have otherwise considered self-employment.

Helen Harman, programme director at Outset Torbay, said: "I am delighted we have been short-listed and proud to lead a team which works hard to adopt an innovative approach to support the Bay's community and economy through the creation of new jobs and businesses."

TDA chief executive Steve Parrock said: "We are very pleased to have Outset working with us in Torbay to help generate economic prosperity for the area. Congratulations to the team for their hard work and commitment to helping new start-ups in the Bay."
