PICTURES: Kitesurfer taken to hospital after Torquay rescue
A KITESURFER was taken to Torbay Hospital for treatment after being rescued from the sea off Torquay on Sunday.
Brixham Coastguard asked Torbay Coastguard rescuers, the Torbay all-weather lifeboat, a Coastguard Rescue Helicopter and South West Ambulance for help.

The man was in difficulties near Daddyhole Cove.
He was airlifted from the beach to Daddyhole Plain by the helicopter, met by the ambulance crew and transferred to Torbay Hospital for treatment.

The lifeboat was launched at 12.50pm and a spokesman said the kitesurfer had initially got into trouble in the Meadfoot area and had then been swept towards Daddyhole Cove.
One lifeboat crewman was put ashore to assess the man's condition and await the arrival of the helicopter from Portland.
The helicopter then recovered the crewman from the foot of the cliffs.
Sea conditions at the time were described as 'unpleasant', with an east/north-easterly wind blowing between Force Six and Seven.

“Bleach is 100% correct dimwit Des...... nearly all kitesurfers windsurf as well (as I have since 1990) Also I travel the world looking for places to sail that have consistent winds at or around F6 as do most sailors! so pull your head in and educate yourself before making ignorant statements.
If its F6 SW the best beaches will be crowded with sailors having fun, go have a look and open your eyes and mind.”

“Kite surfing is an extreme sport. It's not extreme unless you do it in extreme weather. If you were to look over at Exmouth that day you'd see a lot of kite and windsurfers taking advantage of the conditions, I can see them out there now.
Believe me, no-one goes out in these conditions unless they know what they're doing. An inexperienced kiter wouldn't even be able to get his kite up much less get out there in amongst it.
Damned if people on these pages can't stop whining on subjects about which they know nothing.”

“What a total idiot this man was, going out in a Force 6/7 Gale on a Windsurf Board, putting all our local resources at risk, not to mention the cost.
This man should be held personally responsible for all of these costs which arose from his own irresponsibility.
Even some Fishermen wouldn't go out in them.”
