At lower levels the wet snow was picturesque but caused few problems.
By 8.30am the snow had turned mainly to rain, and drivers making their way to work around Torbay faced problems with spray and surface water, but little snow disruption.

Some roads in the South Hams were treacherous.
Devon County Council say gritters were out across Devon from 6pm and overnight.
Up to 10cm of snow was forecast, possibly 15cm on high ground.
More than 260 snow wardens are on standby to put in place local self-help plans in Devon.
Hennock Primary School was closed because of heavy snowfall, as were Ilsington Primary School and Moretonhampstead Primary School.
Haytor View Primary school at Newton Abbot was closed as staff were unable to get to school.
To add to the misery for motorists, Torquay seafront was closed to traffic due to waves crashing over the sea wall at Livermead. Later in the morning the road was also closed at Meadfoot.
