Paignton panto has moral to storyline
PAIGNTON Pantomime Productions is gearing up for the Christmas season and their offering, Mother Goose, promises to be full of fun and spectacle.
The Paignton pantomime is always a popular attraction at the Palace Theatre, Paignton, and this year is shaping up to be no exception.

The cast has been busy rehearsing since the end of October and is already looking forward to the December 21 opening night.
The principal line up features many regular faces and also some newcomers to the company.

Taking the title role of Mother Goose is Chris Mitchell (pictured right) in his third outing as the dame for PPP.
Other familiar faces are Nic Heath as Silly Billy, Colin and Rae Gilderthorp as the comic bailiffs Bumpkin and Bogtrotter, Georgina Johnson as the Fairy and Hazel Laugee and Alan Wagstaff as the King and Queen of Gooseland.
Sam Tyler makes a welcome return after his success as Dick Whittington's cat last year, this time in the principal boy role of Colin, and playing opposite him as Jill, is newcomer Anya-Marie Dooley.
Making a very welcome return after a few years absence is Jo Button, who plays a very wicked Demoness. Another newcomer to the company is Andrew Stokes who plays Squire Moneybags, and of course one of the most important roles is that of Priscilla the goose, given life by Tricia Bennett.
Mother Goose isn't perhaps the best known of the traditional pantomime stories, but it is the one known for the moral in its story.
Mother Goose suddenly acquires a goose which has magical qualities and lays golden eggs and makes everyone rich.
The problem is Mother Goose is unhappy as an ugly old woman and falls under the spell of the demon who wants her riches, in return for giving Mother Goose beauty. Mother Goose is very unhappy being beautiful as she loses all her friends and she loses Priscilla the Goose. So she returns to being ugly and penniless but she has all her friends and family back with her. The moral of the story is money doesn't always bring you happiness.
Each year PPP try to bring something a bit new to audiences and this year's show promises some big surprises in the form of spectacular effects which the company are keeping under wraps.
There will also be all the old favourites that the audiences now expect from a company of 40 principals, singers and dancers, and not forgetting the adorable little babes.
The company has the same successful production ream as they have had for many years with Iain Douglas as director, John Amery as musical director and Elaine Johnson as choreographer ably assisted by Amanda Coote.
The show runs until January 2.
