FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze which destroyed a static caravan at Marldon in Paignton yesterday.

Crews from Paignton, Torquay, Brixham and Totnes were sent to the park home behind the Old Smokey House pub in Vicarage Road shortly before 6pm.

They spent four hours at the scene. Nobody was injured and the owner of the property, an elderly man, was out of the park home before the crews arrived.

The cause of the blaze was accidental.

“UPDATE! Some of our vendors have kindly donated some unwanted goods to these poor vendors today, if anyone has anything they can donate, please drop it to Miller Countrywide 45 Hyde Road in Paignton. Or call us on 01803 529300 and we will help from there. My staff have been amazing today helping and visiting them where they have temporary accommodation. I cant thank Lisa, Matt and Wendy enough today. I am on leave at the moment, but will be going in for a short time tomorrow. If anyone can post on their facebook or twitter to help, it would be greatly appreciated xx”

“As the manager for the estate agents who are selling the property, we can say that the unfortunate vendors lost their dog in the fire. Marldon is a strong community village, and we're sure people will help where needed. The vendors are OK, but shook up and sad about what happened. Thank you to the fire service who were very helpful, proof they are needed more than ever when accidents happen”
