Past pupils honoured
TWO past pupils from Torquay picked up awards at the Royal Welsh Show and discovered they now live only miles away from each other in Wales.
The Council for Awards of Royal Agricultural Societies honoured two past pupils of Torquay Girls' grammar School, both of whom now play leading roles within farming in Wales.

AWARDS: Past Torquay Girls' Grammar School pupils Kay Spencer and Dr Christianne Glossop
A fellowship was awarded to Kay Spencer of Raglan an associate since 2006 and former secretary of the Monmouthshire Show Society for 18 years.
Kay attended TGGS from 1955 until 1962. At this time her family had a small farm, Culvertor, at Marldon and her father was also a butcher in Torbay Road, Paignton.

After school she did a year of practical farming on the Dartington Hall Farm, Totnes, before studying at Seale Hayne.
At the same ceremony, an associateship was presented to Dr Christianne Glossop, the chief veterinary officer for Wales, for her work with farmers in raising standards of animal health, welfare and productivity.
Christianne attended TGGS from 1969-1974, being inspired to follow her dream of studying veterinary medicine by local vet Jim Goodwin, as well as science teachers Mr Grantham-Hill, Mr Bailey and Mr Healey. Her mother, Elizabeth Janis, still lives in Paignton.
