Plaice trip out to Skerries proves fruitful for Head

OWEN Mallia and his party of anglers landed more than 40 plaice from a day out over the Skerries Banks.

Man of the day was tackle proprietor Gordon Head from Paignton, who was on fire. His best fish was just under 4lbs and he followed that up with another fine example of 2lbs 1oz.

Kingskerswell angler Peter Gage was determined to stay in touch with Head and landed a number of fine examples with his best fish tipping the scales at 2lb 11oz.

Skipper Mallia said the day started well and just got better.

"We arrived out on the banks with zero wind –- a welcome contrast to recent conditions – and caught fish from our first drift right up until it was time to return in to Dartmouth at tea time," said Mallia.

On a separate outing, Tim O'Brien from Brixham caught a personal best cod of 22lbs 12oz, along with a couple more fish in the middle teens.

REPORTED catches from Paignton Sea Anglers Association are few and far between this week.

John Taylor caught a small-eyed ray of 8-14-11 from Minehead in Somerset.

Closer to home on the south side of Berry head, John Case caught a garfish of 1-7-3.

PAIGNTON and Brixham anglers dominated the Wyvern Fish of the Month awards for April in Area C.

Paignton SAA members Ray Nathan and Serena Gardner won the senior and junior boat awards respectively.

Brixham SAC's Sean Coulson and Ciaran Farley took the respective shore awards.
