THE eighth leg of the River Teign Rowing Club's Seine boat series was held at Teignmouth.

The race started at the pier with a relatively short sprint against the tide to an inflatable buoy placed out at sea and then a sharp turn back towards the red can-buoy at the entrance of the main channel.

From there it was a straight run-in through the main channel, before a sprint after the Point to the finish at the back beach.

It was the men who were away first and who also experienced the worst of the conditions, being welcomed by rain and a choppy sea as they raced towards the first mark.

Whilst the Lazy Jack Men and C' Oar Blimey had already secured first and second places respectively within the Series, attention moved to the Plate competition.

The Power Masters A in Eileen made a very strong start to the race, with both Blade Runners in Mr Christian and Poets in Viscount Amery II keeping in close contention.

Aladdin Seine also got away well despite the choppy conditions and was able to hold-off some strong challenges from Crewd Toil and Must Be Inseine. Up Y'oars II were having a battle with the Castle Inn Rowers and were able to hold-off the Peninsula Inn boat at the line.

It was the Power Masters A who finished first in the plate competition with Blade Runners being able to hold-off a late charge from the Poets who crossed the line in third.

The weather improved considerably within the space of an hour, with both the wind and rain abating.

In the ladies series G-Foarce had already secured an overall win and Abs Fab were in a strong position to secure second place in the final leg.

However, matters in the ladies Plate competition are very much closer and still undecided.

The Moose women in Rene Arnott had an excellent race and went on to finish seventh overall and in doing so also secured their second win in the Plate competition. This was their best finish of the series this year.

Four in a Row are also finishing the series strongly and were narrowly beaten into eleventh place by Shaldon Gulls in Mrs B.

Over Oared in Feock II held off a strong late challenge from the Ship Inn Wrecks, who have had one of their strongest Series for several years.

Oarmighties in Peninsula Inns were able to finish ahead of Up Y'oars in Sweet Chariot II and the Bosom Buddies and Win-oars completed the places in the Plate competition.
