PLENTY of carp came to the bank on the lower Specimen Lake at Town Parks Fishery this week.

The northern bank pegs seven to 12 seemed the favourite haunt of the fish that were feeding.

Damien Brading fished a single artificial corn mid-water for two carp, a fine platinum ghostie at 20lbs 1oz and a common of 12lbs 8oz.

Brading also lost one fish at the bank and failed to connect with another two.

Ashley King took an 18lb 2oz common from peg seven, fishing a single halibut pellet close to the waterfall.

Eddie Benney banked six carp, the best an 18lb 9oz mirror. All the fish fell to sweetcorn, one single fresh piece and one artificial.

Cameron Jones took two fish 13lb 2oz and 12lb 11oz — again the fish fell to sweetcorn.

Also on the northern bank was Jared Lewington, who took a lovely 16lbs 8oz common.

Regular Dave Osmond fished a two-hour session from peg seven in the late afternoon. Within half-an-hour he had taken a 18lb 8oz leather carp.

Toby Harvey banked a fine condition common carp which tipped the scales at 13lbs 8oz.

On the upper Match Lake plenty of silvers continued to show with medium bags coming from most pegs on maggot or caster. Carp showed but were much harder to take as they did not appear to be feeding heavily.

Deeper water pegs seemed to produce the better bags with pegs seven through 14 fishing well on the sunnier days.

I IMAGINE the same situation applies to local coarse fisheries as was happening to those on the Isle of Wight last weekend, where I was staying.

A vast excess of mud-laden brown water, overflowing onto already treacherous slippery banks for the modern coarse angler, laden with rods, poles, (some costing £2,500 or more), a fair-size box, and a giant umbrella or portable shelter.

The waters will subside, and the fish will feed to survive.

I look forward to clear skies, warmer weather, and good company on the banks, on shore, or afloat chasing dreams … hope you do too!

THE annual presentation of the Three Elms Castoffs will be held at the Three Elms pub in Brixham tomorrow.
