A police spokesman said: "We are trying to understand if there are any links between this incident and others previously reported to us."

The blaze was put out using a hose reel jet by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.

The incident happened at 9.20pm on Saturday, February 16.

At the end of last year police launched Operation Gallon after a series of arson attacks on vehicles, sheds and bins, mostly in the Ellacombe area and surrounding neighbourhoods.

The number of arson attacks has significantly reduced in the wake of Operation Gallon.

However, nobody has yet been convicted of the crimes and the operation is still running.

“Well there is either one arsonist in Torquay who has set fire to over 50 cars, vans, garages, language schools etc over the last 12 months. Or over 50 arsonists in Torquay who have each set fire to one item each. This is Torquay, so either could be true. Or it could be something in between, maybe 10 arsonists each setting fire to 5 or 6 items each. This is probably as far as the Police have got.”
