Police step up hunt for thief who stole Poppy cash in Totnes

Police are hunting a thief who stole a Poppy Appeal collection box from a newsagent.

A man entered Bridgetown Stores in Totnes around 3pm on Saturday November 10 and took the Royal British Legion box from the counter after distracting the cashier. Police are now appealing for information about the theft.

The suspect is described as around 5ft 10in tall with dark hair and he was wearing a grey tracksuit with three black stripes on the sleeves.

PC Douglas McCance, based at Totnes, said: "Any theft is distressing but theft from charities only adds to this and can be very emotive.
