Popular charity raft race is set to return
THE Rotary Club of Totnes is planning to resurrect the raft race.
Formally run by Totnes Round Table until ten years ago, the event was held annually for 30 years, drawing scores of participants and spectators.
The charity race will follow the same course as it always did — down the River Dart from Dart Meadow at Buckfastleigh and finishing at Vire Island, Totnes.
It will be held on Sunday, October 21, from 9am.

Rotarian Peter Thornhill said: "Participants will propel a raft constructed from rubber and rope from the start at Buckfastleigh to the finish at Totnes.
"Funds are raised through sponsorship. All rafts must be constructed from car or lorry inner tubes and rope. It will raise money for the Totnes Children's Centre, Dart Sailability, Totnes Caring and Shelterbox and other Rotary charities. We would like to thank Totnes Canoe, RAYNET and Sub Aqua Club for their help. Also landowners, farmers, Dart Angling Association and other individuals with fishing rights for their support."
There will be trophies for fastest crews and best dressed crews.
Teams are invited to enter. Log on to www.totnesraftrace.co.uk for details.
