Postponement pays off for popular show
MUD, rain and the first postponement in its 94-year history have failed to put a dampener on this year's Totnes Show.
Organisers of the annual agricultural event on the edge of the town believe even though numbers were slightly down on last year, the show remained a success.
Show secretary Linda Harvey said: "We were blessed for having this window of good weather on the day."
Mrs Harvey said the show, which had to be postponed from its traditional date at the end of July to the August Bank Holiday weekend instead because of the summer downpour and waterlogged ground, had seen 85 craft exhibitors, 160 trade stands, 300 horses and more cattle and sheep than before.

Muddy fields meant punters and traders had to be pulled out of the show ground on occasion but at least no rain came down on the day.
She added: "Although numbers are slightly down on last year because of the postponement and change of date, attendance was still good.
"Last year was a real bumper year.
"Postponing was the best possible scenario this year.
"It was the first time in 94 years that it has happened.
"This summer has not been very good for agricultural shows because of the rain.
"But we are happy. It was a good show. The feedback has been really good."
Mrs Harvey said the team behind the show was already hard at work preparing next year's event. But with the hope of seeing it reinstated on its normal date.
