THE Torquay Pottery Collectors Society will be holding a grand auction this Sunday at the Grand Hotel.

Around 25 pottery collectors will be presenting individual stalls of pottery from around South Devon.

From 11am members of the public can view and buy a range of unique pottery.

Everything clay will be on sale, from jugs to plates and statues to flower pots, all of it antique and all of it local.

Some pieces for sale are over 100 years old.

Each piece up for auction is exclusive to the TPCS Annual General Meeting.

Spokesman for the society Michael Mapp said: "The collecting of pottery is an absolute pleasure.

"To hold a pot perhaps a hundred years old in nearly identical condition now as it was the day it came out of the kiln is always a joy.

"Furniture, paintings and drawings all degrade over the years, but pottery endures like none of these and there are still many treasures to be found."

He added: "Torquay Pottery is highly valued by many collectors and newcomers can still find bargain items."

National meetings of the society are held each year throughout the country, offering talks and 'mystery sessions' to identify members' pots.

The event on Sunday is open to the public until 2pm.
