Clare Potter, Karate black belt, will be teaching practical skills for women to be able to protect themselves against all sorts of attack.

Many people worry about attending such courses, which is why this one is for ladies only.

Together the class goes through awareness drills and principles which show that Clare's techniques work against even big strong people.

No martial arts experience is necessary, as this isn't the stuff of movies but simple effective techniques that anyone can do.

On hand will be just a couple of men that, if the ladies wish to, they can try out the techniques on, with whatever level of resistance they feel comfortable with.

On previous courses the attendees have often said that it wasn't what they thought it would be like, and that it was all empowering and achievable unlike the "bootcamp" atmosphere they expected.

Teenage girls and mature ladies alike learn on these courses.

The next class is Saturday 29th September 2012 from 1.30pm-4.30pm. The class is £10, and places can be booked by calling 01626 360999. The class takes place away from the eyes of the public at Karate Academy, Brunel Road, Newton Abbot.

“Highly recommended. If nothing else, you will leave with a feeling of confidence that will be a protection in itself. Men who attack women are cowards and pick victims who seem vulnerable, so learn to look after yourself and remember you have a right to use the streets in safety.”
