PATIENTS have rated cancer services at South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust highly.

The results of the 2011 National Cancer Patient Experience Survey show Torbay Hospital scored average or good in all 70 areas of the published by Quality Health, on behalf of the Department of Health.

The trust was also within the top 20 per cent of the country in 30 areas, such as staff explaining completely what would be done during a test, patients being told they could bring a friend when they were first told they had cancer, patients receiving written information about the type of cancer they had.

David Sinclair, clinical director of cancer services at South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: "We are delighted with the latest results and they are a testament to our staff and the close working relationship that we have with our colleagues in the community.

"It is important that all of our patients have a good experience while in our care, and seeing this feedback shows we are getting this right most of the time.

"While it is a very pleasing result, the trust is always looking at ways in which we can continue to improve services and the overall patient experience.

"I would like to thank all of the patients who took the time to tell us about their experiences. It really is valued."

The results have been discussed at the trust's Cancer Users Forum.
