Prestigious guide shows West chefs are the best
The Westcountry's top chefs were in the driving seat for the launch of this year's prestigious Trencherman's Guide which showcases the region's best restaurants and also restaurants with rooms.
Now in its 21st year, the launch at Fifteen Cornwall featured a five-course lunch prepared by Fifteen's Andy Appleton, Chris Eden of the Driftwood Hotel in Portscatho, John Howe, of Lumiere in Cheltenham, Daniel Moon of Ston Easton Park in Somerset and James and Chris Tanner of Tanners Restaurant and the Barbican Kitchen in Plymouth.

Restaurant critic and food writer Matthew Fort said he doubted that there was a better region in the country for food and described the guide as "a celebration of great British ingredients turned into great British food by great British chefs."
There is a strict entry criteria for inclusion in the annual guide. Only those achieving consistently high ratings across top international publications including The Michelin Guide, The Good Food Guide and the AA Restaurant Guide are invited to be in the guide. This year a record 122 restaurants and hotels with rooms across Somerset, Gloucester, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall have made it.

"While the region continues to lead the UK in high-quality, authentic cooking, using locally prepared and seasonal ingredients, it's not all about fine dining of the white linen and crystal variety," says Michelin starred chef Michael Caines.
"In the Guide you'll also discover excellent food, served with style, everywhere from chic beachside restaurants to moorland dining pubs."
For the first time a digital version has been unveiled alongside the new printed guides and there's a new website www.trenchermans-guide.co.uk.

“No mention of the castle grill in Torquay, that is castle circus food at it's best. Great cold turkey.”
