"At about 8am on August 5 a healthcare professional and a detention officer entered his cell and found Mr Lloyd dead.

"The force referred this to the IPCC and it was decided that an independent investigation will be carried out.

"IPCC investigators have visited Mr Lloyd's family to explain how his death will be investigated."

Mr Lloyd, 66, had been charged with 25 counts of sexual assault on a child, six offences of child rape, three counts of attempted child rape and one count of attempting sexual acts on a child.

But he had failed to appear at Hendon Magistrates' Court in London on July 24 and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
