ENTRIES are now being accepted for round two of the Mud and Sweat Mountain Bike Adventure Series.

Round one of the innovative series, run by Kingsbridge-based outdoor pursuits enthusiast Phil Way, was raced through Haldon Forest near Exeter in late November. It attracted nearly 90 riders, split into five different categories racing over courses of varying distances.

Round two will take place on Woodbury Common between Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton on Sunday, January 31.

The event tests off-road mountain biking ability with navigating skills and is open to everyone from beginners and families to experienced adventure racers.

Riders will aim to get the highest score possible by visiting as many of the checkpoints marked on their map as they can in the times allowed, which range from 60 minutes to three and a half hours depending on the category.

"This allows everyone to choose their own route and set a personal challenge, rather than chasing other competitors around a set course," said Way.

"All that's needed is a sense of fun and adventure, a working bike, a helmet, a compass and money for entry fees and some well-earned refreshments."

Individuals, pairs and families can enter in advance through www.mudandsweat.com, or from 10am on the day at race HQ, which is in Fir Tree car park on Woodbury Common.

Registration opens from 10am on race day. Start times are available from 10.45am. Electronic timing systems are used which allow competitors to receive data on their performance that can be compared with other competitors, both post-event and online.
