A public consultation will be held on plans by the Fire Service to alter crewing arrangements at Torquay fire Station.

A meeting of the Devon and Somerset Fire Authority was held in Exeter this morning to consider a set of proposals to save the service £5.5million over the next two years.

In Torquay this would mean changing the second full-time pump to a retained service.

Unions oppose the plans contained in the draft consultation, but the service says it can balance cuts with public safety.
