Pupil wins place at Big Bang finals
A SOUTH Hams student has won a place in the finals of the UK's National Science and Engineering Competition 2013.
Jake Rankin, from Kingsbridge Academy, excelled in the regional heats of the competition with a project about a contemporary chair designed to compliment the current range of furniture sold by Peter Betteridge.
Jake will now represent Devon at the finals which will take place at The Big Bang Fair at London ExCeL next March.
There it will be seen by 60,000 visitors and he will come face to face with top celebrity judges in a Dragons' Den-style pitch process.

Jake said: "The competition has taken me on an amazing journey and I've definitely got my sights set on the big prize whilst at The Big Bang Fair in London next March.
"The best and most important discoveries and inventions are down to science and engineering, and this contest has helped me to realise that I want to be a part of that in the future."
