RNLI lifeguards rescue woman on South Hams beach
RNLI lifeguards at Sedgewell Cove in the South Hams were alerted by a member of the public this afternoon when an elderly lady collapsed at the far end of the beach.
They were able to provide instant casualty care for the woman and organise an ambulance crew to take her to hospital.
RNLI lifeguard James Curtis responded in the team 4 x 4 truck and on arrival at the river mouth end of Sedgewell Cove beach at 1.15pm this afternoon found the woman lying unconscious.
He was joined by RNLI Senior Lifeguard Chris Rampling and together they began to provide initial casualty care. In the meantime, lifeguard Holly Molesworth organised for an ambulance crew to respond to the beach.

When the paramedics arrived they continued to treat the woman at the scene before she was well enough to be transported in the lifeguard truck across the beach to the waiting ambulance, which was parked on the slipway.
She was then taken off for further treatment in hospital.
Paul Gunning, RNLI Lifeguard Supervisor, says the team did a professional job.
He said: "The lifeguards responded really quickly when a member of the public raised the alarm and they were able to provide casualty care almost instantly.
"They then worked alongside the paramedics to ensure the woman was swiftly moved from the far end of the beach to the waiting ambulance.
"It just shows how vital their on-going training is when it comes to responding in a timely manner. We send the lady our best wishes for a speedy recovery.’
Sedgewell Cove is one of 67 beaches that will continue to be covered by RNLI lifeguard teams this weekend.
