Why Rachael won’t be shopping in Torquay again!
Thousands of pounds are being pumped into town centre regeneration and not too long ago traders in Torquay signed up for BID (Business Improvement District) which has them paying more money via business rates and yet the aggressive Torbay Council parking policy continues to drive folk away.

A shot in the foot!
Newton Abbot has free parking on Sunday in the hope of encouraging more people to visit the town centre. Not so Torquay as local college lecturer Rachael Johnstone found to her cost yesterday.

Rachael posted on Facebook "Got a Parking ticket in Torquay £50 Time on Pay and Display 11:27 Parking ticket time 11:32 when I arrived back at 11:32 the traffic warden was just taking a picture of the car and walking off..................Safe to say I won't be shopping in Torquay again.
I went and spoke to him and he said the council rules are 5 minutes grace, which he gave me! A woman in the car next door said he had typed everything in his machine and was waiting to print the ticket and take the photo.....jobs worth!"
Out of town supermarket parking is free and the old centres suffer from aggressive parking policies for income generation rather than traffic control. The outcome is obvious and is a point not lost on Newton Abbot!

“This reflects the state of our education system- a college lecturer who cannot tell the time.”

“I think Rachael will find that if she doesn't pay enough money for her parking she will receive a parking ticket anywhere in the country, in fact anywhere in europe, in fact anywhere in the world.”
