“It really does beggar belief that so many people ignore the warnings they've been given for decades about the dangers of exposure of the human ear to stupid levels of noise.
It's not macho; it's not clever to consider that if you are "hard" you are immune. When you realise that 100% of all the Racing Motorcyclists at Donnington Park who agreed to undergo hearing tests after a race failed the test and proved they had all damaged their hearing and they wear ear-plugs.
When all the people who expose themselves to damaging levels of noise reach the age of 50 and discover they have permanent ringing in the ears 24/7 and deafness that ruins communication with other people to the point where they are considered loopy or daft, they will all be moaning about compensation for their own stupidity.
Our ears were never meant to receive long periods of 90 decibels + they just don't escape damage if the exposure is longer than a few minutes. If anyone is silly enough to shun protection then they deserve everything they cop for. The warnings are there - the foolish ignore them.”

“p.s. @ mrmrmrmr123, the sound system used was JBL not Funktion1 and at times it didn't sound that great.
Some of that is more likely down to mp3s being used over huge systems instead of lossless files such as Wavs or Ai*** ;)
A couple of times I had to move away from the front area to 'rest' my ears as I was djing at 2 gigs later that night. Was gutted I had to miss Pete Tong and Eric Prydz tho. Met them both in Ibiza last year. Really nice blokes!”

“The noise complaints were bound to surface. Tshirtdave I salute you for response to them.
As far as I'm concerned, I thought it was a little quiet at times, but then I've been a dj for over 20 years so my hearing is already impaired. That said, despite being into my 40's still love the fact that the region had the chance to stage such an event with national and worldwide exposure for the Bay.
The event was superbly organised and huge praise goes to the people involved in making in happen.
To the moaners, it's one night in 365, get over it! The event was advertised for weeks beforehand so you had a choice wether to stay or go elsewhere for the evening.
If it's too loud, there's always earplugs [or fingers].
The reason many dj's were wearing earplugs is for protection from being so close to the soundsytem they also need to filter out a lot of 'noise' to be able to monitor what they're about to play in their headphones. Even alot of clubbers wear them. It's a personal choice.
Another event next year then? Perhaps on Torre Abbey meadows so that the sound can be directed out to sea.”

“In fact I think mrmr is the one to "get real" it was a problem where I live which is two miles away and I can prove it. I am going to leave this debate here because there are some who will never concede that putting on events at this volume is not a good idea, in fact its a monstrous arrogance. It says " We are going to have our event entirely in our way and s** anyone else "”

“I think the comments re the level of volume being too loud are wrong. I spent time going around the entire perimeter when it was in full swing and i can honestly say that I would not consider the volume excessive. Loud it certainly was but not excessive. I had conversations with quite a few people as i walked around the site and we could converse quite comfortably. Some are saying that it was painful to the ears, no one I spoke to mentioned that or that it was too loud. People, of mixed ages, were on the balconies of the overlooking hotels dancing and having a great time.
To say that the music would have been just as enjoyable at half the volume is just plain wrong, ask any of the audience. The volume was less than it is in most clubs, indeed quite a lot less than the majority.
I keep two dogs and they are terrified of the fireworks for the regatta etc but I know these events have fireworks and I make arrangements to suit. I don't make complaints about the noise etc .I'm happy for them to take place.
The saying 'You can please most of the people some of the time but not all the people all of the time' comes to mind.”

“I don't think anyone is complaining about having such musical events....the complaint is the ridiculous volume of the music. Not only would it have been just as enjoyable at half the volume, but it would also not be detrimental to people's hearing!
Let's have more of these events, with the proviso that 'other' people who are not involved are given some thought!”
